Extremely Mature Men Fight About Their Wives

Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, two grown men, have engaged in a spat of verbal fisticuffs regarding regarding the honor of their respective wives. The whole thing got started by an anti-Trump super PAC called “Make America Awesome” which, of all the literally thousands of things it could have legitimately criticized Donald Trump for, chose to criticize the fact that Trump’s wife (as of this writing) once posed nude for British GQ. The super PAC posted a photo of Melania Trump lounging naked on a fur rug with the caption “Meet Melania Trump, your next first lady. Or, you could support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”

As far as anyone call tell, the super PAC who created the ad was not authorized by Ted Cruz or any of his committees. The biggest clue is the words on the bottom of the ad itself, which say “Not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.” But Trump has not made it to GOP nominee frontrunner by paying attention to facts. He promptly tweeted one of his classic Cruz burns, insofar as a retort to someone who was not responsible for the original statement can be considered a burn.

This marks the first time that Trump has seemed displeased about someone else referring to his wife’s sexuality, but let’s stay focused here. What beans does Trump have Heidi Cruz, gifted Goldman Sachs investment banker? Some dark secret which the famously even-tempered Trump has chosen to keep under wraps? Or does he mean spilling literal beans, as the tweet itself implies? Either way, Cruz is in full damage control mode.

“Classless Donald” has kind of a nice ring to it but, Cruz wants to stick with calling Trump a coward, which is his prerogative. Trump has never been one to take such insults lightly, and he responded with two of the most Trumpian sentences ever typed by Trump’s tiny hands.

And that pretty much catches us up to where things are today, with one the possible future President of the United States of America issuing a clear threat to a rival’s wife. In closing, Melania Trump is fluent in five languages and Heidi Cruz is a Harvard MBA.

New Pod Flow: Scribble & Jam, “Artist Matthew Perryman Jones”

Welcome to Episode IV. This week, Dan spends some time with his favorite singer/songwriter, Matthew Perryman Jones. Matthew and Dan talk about panic attacks, growing up in Atlanta, the way music is informed by pain and suffering and the way music gives freedom.

If you have spent any time watching television in the last decade you have most likely heard one of Mattew’s songs on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill and many others. His insightful writing and voice have drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley, and he is on the short list of songwriters who skillfully weave the deeply philosophical and the vivid utterly human without ever losing sight of either.
