Luis Guzman, Meagan Good, and other celebs create powerful protest videos against police brutality.

Campaign Zero, an organization created by activists Deray McKesson, Johnetta Elzie, Samuel Sinyangwey, and Brittany Packnett, is committed to ending police violence. On Thursday, just a few days after police shot and killed Korryn Gaines and weeks after the Alton Sterling and Philando Castile killings, both documented on video, Campaign Zero released a series of videos featuring numerous black and Latino celebrities to promote their cause.

The videos, part of the #SomedayisToday campaign, include famed character actor Luis Guzman (“Boogie Nights,” “Carlito’s Way”) comic Cedric the Entertainer (“Barbershop,” “The Kings of Comedy”) and “How To Get Away With Murder” star Aja Naomi King, along with dozens of others.

One video features close-ups on each actor’s face as they solemnly recite the lyrics to the memorable gospel and Civil Rights anthem “We Shall Overcome.” While crowds joyfully sang during Martin Luther King’s famed March on Washington, the various celebs wearily read every word, some with tears rolling down their cheeks, expressing a longing for the vision in King’s dream and the song to be realized today.

The second video features a collection of celebrities repeating the campaign hashtag and slogan, emphasizing the “today” in #SomedayisToday.

The two videos are powerful and worth your watch. You can learn more about #SomedayisToday and how to get involved from their website, here.

New Pod Flow: Scribble & Jam, “Artist Matthew Perryman Jones”

Welcome to Episode IV. This week, Dan spends some time with his favorite singer/songwriter, Matthew Perryman Jones. Matthew and Dan talk about panic attacks, growing up in Atlanta, the way music is informed by pain and suffering and the way music gives freedom.

If you have spent any time watching television in the last decade you have most likely heard one of Mattew’s songs on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill and many others. His insightful writing and voice have drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley, and he is on the short list of songwriters who skillfully weave the deeply philosophical and the vivid utterly human without ever losing sight of either.
