President Barack Obama and Jimmy Fallon slow jammed the news again.

Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 8.15.38 AM

President Barack Obama stopped by The Tonight Show for a victory lap of some of his most Tonight Show-worthy hits from the past eight years, and it was entertaining as hell. Obama clearly enjoys any opportunity to employ some cocky swagger, and Jimmy Fallon, America’s goofball neighbor kid, barely manages to keep his giggles in check as the two slow jam items like the TPP, economic growth and same-sex marriage.

Lots of good lines in here, but whichever staffer came up with “orange is not the new black” should get a raise. There must not have been enough time to get into Guantanamo but, hey, not much rhymes with Guantanamo anyway.

It’s always fun to see Obama employ the baller, #millennial-savvy PR strategy that made him a star nine years ago, but the backup talent on display here is noteworthy too. A Brooklyn native and a band of Philadelphia high school pals joking around with the leader of the free world (and covering a song by a Barbadian immigrant to boot) is more than just feel-good comfort food TV — it’s a nice counterpoint to the nativism taking place in the race for Obama’s job.

The Prez Dispenser stuck around for a short interview with Fallon where they discussed the state of the Republican Party (not great!), some very worthwhile thoughts on why America is better off with two healthy parties, and whether or not Obama would ever consider a gig on the Supreme Court.

New Pod Flow: Scribble & Jam, “Artist Matthew Perryman Jones”

Welcome to Episode IV. This week, Dan spends some time with his favorite singer/songwriter, Matthew Perryman Jones. Matthew and Dan talk about panic attacks, growing up in Atlanta, the way music is informed by pain and suffering and the way music gives freedom.

If you have spent any time watching television in the last decade you have most likely heard one of Mattew’s songs on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill and many others. His insightful writing and voice have drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley, and he is on the short list of songwriters who skillfully weave the deeply philosophical and the vivid utterly human without ever losing sight of either.
