Cut it out, Frank Ocean.

“Boys Don’t Cry” is an American motion picture starring Hillary Swank. The film’s title was derived from the popular adage, its plot a subversion of the regressive cultural assumptions about masculinity implied in the phrase, examined through Swank’s career-defining dramatization of Brandon Teena, a real-life transgender man. After the 1999 release of Boys Don’t Cry, no work of art of cultural significance was ever produced again bearing the maxim’s namesake. Because FRANK OCEAN is a sadistic monster.

The perennial had a deadline, July 31st. Ocean teased this in a completely unfunny allusion to his complete disregard for deadlines/humans/society, resembling the library card on an overdue book.

Apple Music is an accomplice to his massacre of basic human decency. Ocean’s website for “Boys Don’t Cry,” the mysterious urban legend/suspected title of his second album, published a visual stream hosted on Apple Music early on August 1st (East Coast time). There’s no music — why would Apple Music host music that’s silly talk lol — just video of an empty room.

With All.

The Lies.

Frank Ocean just texted me, said he hit some traffic but he’ll definitely be here in the hour, but hold up, he’s not sure if his watch his slow and oh, damn, did Frank Ocean leave the stove on Frank Ocean needs to check in on that just in case, my bad fam.

New Pod Flow: Scribble & Jam, “Artist Matthew Perryman Jones”

Welcome to Episode IV. This week, Dan spends some time with his favorite singer/songwriter, Matthew Perryman Jones. Matthew and Dan talk about panic attacks, growing up in Atlanta, the way music is informed by pain and suffering and the way music gives freedom.

If you have spent any time watching television in the last decade you have most likely heard one of Mattew’s songs on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, One Tree Hill and many others. His insightful writing and voice have drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley, and he is on the short list of songwriters who skillfully weave the deeply philosophical and the vivid utterly human without ever losing sight of either.
